I've been in contact with Rogers the past few days and received a number of different responses, but spike today with Sherri "from the office of the president".

ryan: I believe they sent an update the same time as when the T-Mobile updates came through, at least that's what my friends who have HTC Magic and HTC Dreams say.

I wouldn't be suprised if they hacked them, and I'm just mis-informed.

Hub: You have to be dependent on the carrier because that's how Mobile in Canada works. We're still a backwater, and that's probably NEVER going to change. You either have to work within it, or just give up on mobile in Canada. When the Government and Mobile are stacked against you, you pretty much develop almost exclusively for foreign markets.

I think it is better to nail the problem differently: why do I have still to be dependent of the carrier to provide me with my mobile computing platform?

That where the splintering starts.

I have a magic with Rogers and they are definitely not running 1.6 unless I'm missing something.
